We were waiting for the other shoe to drop. It certainly didn’t happen like I expected and not until the very last line of the show, delivered by Rick: “If they can’t make it, then we’ll just take this place.”
Not that I’m surprised that Rick feels this way. What is surprising is how this arc is being introduced with a spin. The bad guys, in this situation, might just be Rick and crew. Although if Deanna’s group is as lousy at running things as Aidan (Deanna’s son) is at patrol, then perhaps it would be a justified hostile takeover. It’s a testament to the show that even though there’s been no evidence that Deanna, et al., have nefarious motives, we’re still very uncomfortable. They’re too nice.
Of course, I don’t know how this is going to turn out, but I’m hedging on last week’s assertion that Aaron is up to no good. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Cool sequences: Carol fumbling with her gun as she turns it in, her Talbot’s wardrobe, her continued smarts.
Body count: Darn low: one zombie who enjoyed a brief freedom gnashing his teeth before getting the ol’ heave-ho to the side of the head.
