I watched “A Most Wanted Man” largely due to it being Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last film. He provides, as always, a solid, absorbing performance.
The movie itself, as most le Carré movies do, left me cold. Hoffman plays a German espionage agent working without “official” authorization, who has best laid plans for “making the world a better place,” as he and his USA counterpart discuss (played by Robin Wright).
It’s well-crafted enough. The acting is solid – even Rachel McAdams puts in an effort that almost made me forget it was Rachel McAdams.
It’s worth seeing if you’d like to watch Hoffman do what he did best one last time. Otherwise, I’m not sure the story / film is engaging enough to warrant a recommendation.
